Fast Food Unchained

Fast Food Unchained - A27 Burger Vans

Cloth bound concertina book
310 x 425mm

Beneath the cool steel grey sky that has become synonymous with life in England the nation’s ‘A’ roads and dual-carriageways snake their way across the landscape, mapping our encroachment into the open landscape.

Oft derided as an environmental evil the traffic that populates these arteries does however continue to feed the countries social and economic infrastructure. Likewise those that inhabit these vehicles also require sustenance. Many choose to take-a-break at the homogenised, de-personalised environ that is the motorway service station. Others however prefer a more humanised and personal touch, choosing to take their fast food unchained at the many so-called burger vans to be found at the periphery of the nations highways and byways.

This project follows the entire length of the A27 as it runs east and west across the south of England for a total of 208 miles.
A total of 18 so-called 'burger vans' are regularly to be found along its length.
